The longest continually running film festival in the world

The Edinburgh International Film Festival is now in its 58th year and since 1947 has become established as the true home of innovative and exciting cinema. The Festival has presented some of cinema's greatest moments and played host to the world's greatest moviemakers.

The longest continually running film festival in the world has come a long way from its beginnings as a documentary festival in 1947 when its spirit was established as bold and international; in the early years it premiered such great movies as Flaherty's Louisiana Story, Rossellini's Germany Year Zero and Mizoguchi's Ugetsu Monogatari.
