Liu Liguo: Buddha (Liu Liguo: Fo 刘力国: 佛)
Around 2005, Liu Liguo 刘力国 (1961–) began to create small porcelain sculptures of Mao, such as Mao as Laughing Buddha playing with his many children as here where we see Mao with red painted lips and toenails, wearing a floral dress, holding children musicians on his knees, arms and shoulders. Larger and less innocent, perhaps, is “Ms. Mao” (ill. 5.60) with exposed breasts in red fiberglass (red, bright, and shining), produced in 2006 by brothers Gao Shen 高兟 (1956–) and Gao Qiang 高强 (1962–).
