But it is not as if such exaggerated depictions were entirely peculiar to the Cultural Revolution comic, even if the technique became much more clear-cut and unambiguous during this time. Indeed, similar visual examples from before and after the Cultural Revolution can be found easily. The covers of a number of 1950s comics make this very clear. This one shows the ridiculed villain with a crooked official’s hat.
