MaoArt in Chinese Comics

Next to MaoMusic and MaoSpeak, MaoArt, too, appears prominently on the pages of Cultural Revolution Comics. "Mao's Good Student Jiao Yulu" can be seen in one panel in conversation with a 70-year-old man. Hanging above and between them, thus featured in central position, we behold the portrait of Mao whose benevolent gaze watches and guides them (ill. 6.5). And this is not an exception. The main cover boy (and hero) in comic magazine Lianhuanhuabao, which takes up publication again in 1973, is Mao, too (ill. 6.6).
