Welcome
This page is maintained by Gotelind Müller-Saini, Institute of Chinese Studies at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. Its aim is to present visions and representations of history as seen in Chinese film and television, since the image of history in China is not only defined by history textbooks used in schools or scholarly historiography, but more and more popular media like film and television join in the contested process of defining history and its meanings and in shaping the actual historical consciousness of the populace. The contents of these pages are based on my own work as well as of students participating in my seminars since 2005. Comments and contributions are very welcome! Please contact us.
